Jihad in Islam

Jihad in Islam
Writer: Abolfazl Ebrahimi
There is a claim that because in Islam, there is no separation between religion and government -what in Christianity would be called the separation of church and state- this lead to violence in Muslims.
We, say that it a Prominence for Islam that covers all areas of human life. Islam has Edicts in both social life and Personal life. If we look closely, we see that in Christianity there are no social commandments because there is no Christian structure of society, no Christian legal system, and no Christian rules as to how a society is to be formed. Christianity is not more than a few moral teachings that form a set of advices such as "tell the truth", "do not tell lies", and so on, But Islam is a religion that has interrelated sets of ideals and realities covering the entire area of human notion and action, beliefs and practices, thought, word, and deed. Islam came to reform society and to form a nation and government. Its mandate is the reform of the whole world. Such a religion cannot be indifferent. It cannot be without a law of jihad. In the same way, its government cannot be without an army. It has laws which govern the society, economic laws, and political laws. It came to organize a state, to organize a government, so how can it remains without an army? How can it be without the law of jihad? Islamic principles and concepts cannot be fully and properly workable unless with this kinds of laws.
In other hand I think this reality that in Christianity there is no social Edicts is a big Deficiency, because in Christian society we see religious leaders that have not any power to actualize the moral rules and in other hand we see political governors who do what they want to do. They kill people, trespass other countries and the result of that is what we see today in our world.
But in Islam to doing all acts we should Gods satisfaction and all of our actions should lead to justice. In Islam we have the law of Jihad but we also have lots of commandments about war that prevent us from doing injustice actions.
We read in holy Koran: 5; 8
O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is well acquainted with what you do.
Also Imam Ali1 (peace be upon him) gave the following instructions to his soldiers before the battle.
Do not take the initiative in fighting, let them begin it. It is because by the Favor of Allah you are on the side of truth and justice. Leave them until they begin their hostilities and then you are at liberty to take to fighting. Their keenness to begin a battle will be another proof of your sincere belief in the orders of Allah. If Allah favors you with success and inflicts defeat to the enemy, then do not attack those who have surrendered, do not injure the disabled and weak, do not assault the wounded, do not excite women and do not make them angry with rude behavior even if they use harsh and insulting words against your commander and officers
This is war and jihad in Islam with specific provisos and limitations but those who criticize Jihad in Islam, today are battling without any proviso and limitation.
